Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis Sibi et Paucis 2013

Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis Sibi et Paucis is a museum release of the single-vineyard Barolo that made the estate's name, held at the winery until it approached maturity.

The Sandrone family's Sibi et Paucis programme takes its name from the Latin for 'for the few and favoured'. Each year 10 to 15 per cent of the production of the estate's Nebbiolo wines, the two Barolos and the Valmaggiore, is set aside in the winery's underground cellars under optimal conditions and re-released years later, so that long-standing customers can buy bottles closer to drinking. The Valmaggiore returns six years after harvest and the Barolos ten; each carries a stamp on the label to distinguish it from the original release. The wine itself is entirely Cannubi Boschis, the subzone at the northern end of the Cannubi hill in the commune of Barolo, directly across from the cellars, where Sandrone farms 1.9 hectares on calcareous clay with sand. Later vintages of the same wine appear under the name Aleste.

Drinking now and holding comfortably for years yet. Serve at 16-18°C with braised veal shin, truffled pasta or hard alpine cheese.
