Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 1.5L MAGNUM 2020

Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne in magnum is a multi-commune blend, the estate's tribute to the classic Barolo-wide assemblage.

Le Vigne draws on several small parcels from several communes, all markedly different in altitude, soil and exposure, and together they give a broad overview of Barolo in any given year. Since the estate began including Nebbiolo from its holding at Le Coste di Monforte, farmed since 2000, the blend has taken in fruit from five communes: Barolo, Serralunga d'Alba, Novello, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d'Alba. The fruit ferments spontaneously in tank before malolactic fermentation and ageing in mainly used 500-litre French oak casks. As with Aleste, roughly 20 to 30 per cent of the grapes ferment as whole bunches, with a high proportion of whole berries in the destemmed portion. Macerations are managed carefully and bottling comes relatively early, as Luca Sandrone looks to capture the finest tannins and the most fruit purity. Time on skins ran from 15 days to three weeks and total time in oak 20 to 22 months, bottled unfiltered as always.

Fresh and translucent in youth, and in magnum it will hold for two decades. Serve at 16-18°C with roast veal, mushroom risotto or Castelmagno.
