Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis 2012

Sibi et Paucis is Sandrone's museum programme, under which a portion of each vintage is held back at the winery and released closer to maturity.

Barolo DOCG is Nebbiolo alone, and Le Vigne is Sandrone's blend across several sites in the appellation rather than a single cru, a house style the family has kept since the wine was introduced. The Sibi et Paucis label, Latin for roughly for the few and favoured, covers 10 to 15% of production of the estate's Nebbiolo wines, which is set aside in the underground cellars under optimal ageing conditions. The Barolos are re-released ten years after the vintage and the Valmaggiore after six, and each bottle carries a stamp on the label to distinguish it from the original release. Luciano Sandrone's stated ambition was that all his wines would one day be sold only when they were ready to drink. The wine itself is fermented and aged conventionally for the estate, with the extra time in bottle doing the work.

Released with bottle age already behind it, this is ready now and will hold for another decade or more; decant, and serve at 17-18°C with braised beef, game or aged cheese.
