Description
Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne Sibi et Paucis is a cellar-held re-release of the estate's multi-cru Barolo, offered here in double magnum.
Sibi et Paucis is the Sandrone family's museum programme; the Latin translates roughly as for the few and favoured. Each year about ten to fifteen per cent of production of the estate's Nebbiolo wines, the two Barolos and the Valmaggiore, is held back in the winery's underground cellars under optimal ageing conditions and released later, so that long-term customers can buy bottles closer to maturity. The Valmaggiore begins to reappear six years after the vintage and the Barolos ten years after, and each release carries a stamp on the label distinguishing it from the original. Le Vigne itself is Sandrone's blend of separately vinified parcels across several Barolo communes, matured in large casks. The three-litre format slows development further still, so a double magnum from this programme arrives at the table younger in character than its age suggests.
Ready to drink but in no hurry at all; decant and serve at 16-18°C with braised beef, hare ragù or aged alpine cheese.
