Description
Luciano Sandrone Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d'Alba Sibi et Paucis is a cellar-aged re-release of the estate's Roero Nebbiolo.
Sibi et Paucis, roughly for the few and favoured, is the Sandrone family's museum programme. Each year 10 to 15 per cent of production of the Nebbiolo wines is held back in the winery's underground cellars and re-released closer to maturity: six years after the harvest for Valmaggiore, ten years for the Barolos. Each re-release carries a stamp on the label to distinguish it from the original bottling. Valmaggiore lies in the Roero, on the far side of the Tanaro from Barolo, and is one of the most highly regarded Nebbiolo sites outside the two great appellations. The slopes are exceptionally steep and the soils close to pure sand, which is the key to the wine's character: sandy ground gives Nebbiolo finer, more perfumed and less imposing tannin than the clay and marl of the Langhe. The gradient means most of the work is done by hand.
Ready to drink on release and good for several more years; serve at 16–18°C with roast veal, agnolotti or a mushroom risotto.
