Description

Lungarotti “Rubesco 62” Rosso di Torgiano DOC is a historic Umbrian red from one of central Italy’s pioneering wine estates. Torgiano was one of the first regions in Umbria to gain DOC recognition, thanks in large part to the work of the Lungarotti family in elevating the reputation of Umbrian wine.

Made with 100% Sangiovese, this wine pays tribute to the original Rubesco first released in 1962. Lungarotti has long been recognised for combining traditional Umbrian winemaking with a modern, refined style that helped place the region on the international wine map.

This is a classic central Italian red with heritage and authenticity, ideal for rustic Italian cooking, long lunches and traditional shared meals.

“Rubesco 62” pays tribute to the original Rubesco first released in 1962, a wine that became a benchmark for modern Umbrian winemaking. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese, it reflects Lungarotti’s enduring commitment to authenticity, balance and regional character.

Recipe

Porchetta Umbra (Umbrian Herb-Roasted Pork)

Ingredients:

  • 1.5kg pork belly or rolled pork roast
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt
  • Cracked black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Combine the garlic, fennel seeds, rosemary, sage, olive oil, salt and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Rub the herb mixture generously over the pork and place in a roasting dish.
  4. Roast for approximately 1½–2 hours, or until the meat is tender and the skin is golden and crisp.
  5. Rest the pork for 15 minutes before slicing.
  6. Serve warm with roasted potatoes or crusty bread.

The savoury herbs and succulent pork complement Rubesco’s bright cherry fruit and earthy Sangiovese character, while the wine’s acidity cuts through the richness, creating a classic Umbrian pairing.
