Mader Pinot Blanc 2023

Mader Pinot Blanc is a dry, unoaked Alsace white from a small organic family domaine in the walled village of Hunawihr.

Jean-Luc Mader works a compact holding around Hunawihr, the village encircled by the Rosacker Grand Cru in the heart of the Haut-Rhin, and farms the whole estate organically. Pinot Blanc in Alsace is usually a partnership between Pinot Blanc proper and Auxerrois, planted on the lighter limestone and clay soils below the Grand Cru slopes and picked for freshness rather than weight. Fruit is whole bunch pressed, fermented cool in stainless steel and left on fine lees for several months to build texture, with no oak involved. The wine is bottled completely dry, with no measurable residual sugar, and sealed under screwcap to keep it precise.

Soft edged but properly dry, it makes an easy aperitif and works with quiche, charcuterie and lighter fish dishes; serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
