Description
Maison Bodet-Herold Aerlinn is an ancestral method sparkling wine made from Grolleau Gris, a near forgotten Loire variety.
Grolleau Gris is a pink skinned mutation of Grolleau, historically planted around Anjou and Touraine for everyday wine and now very rare, kept alive by a handful of Loire growers who value its low alcohol, gentle aromatics and soft acidity. The ancestral method used here bottles the wine before its first fermentation has finished, so the carbon dioxide is trapped from that single fermentation with no added liqueur de tirage and no dosage. The wine falls outside the local appellation rules and is therefore bottled as Vin de France. Sixteen months on lees give it texture before disgorgement.
Gently sparkling, dry and low in alcohol, it is an easy apertif that also suits charcuterie, salads and soft cheeses; serve well chilled at around 7 degrees.
