Maison C. Thiriet Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Confidentielle 2022

Maison C. Thiriet's Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Confidentielle is a négociant Chardonnay blended from organically farmed vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and the Mâconnais.

Camille Thiriet, based at Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, has made a négoce Bourgogne Blanc since her first vintage in 2016, and the source shifts from year to year. Where the 2021 came from a plot of old-vine Chardonnay next to Comblanchien, this release draws on two long-standing contacts, one in Puligny-Montrachet and one in Mâcon-Villages. Both growers farm organically. Thiriet describes the Mâcon fruit as bringing generosity and the Puligny as bringing salinity and citrus brightness. The two parcels were vinified separately, raised with 20 per cent new oak, then married in tank for six months before bottling. At regional Bourgogne level it offers more character, texture and drive than the classification usually implies, which is why the cuvée has stayed in the range since the beginning.

Drink over the next three to five years, with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a leek tart. Serve at 10–12°C.
