Maison C. Thiriet Bourgogne Confidentielle Blanc 2021

Maison C. Thiriet Bourgogne Confidentielle Blanc comes from an old-vine plot at Chaux, next to Comblanchien, with Aligoté and Pinot Blanc interplanted among the Chardonnay.

Bourgogne Blanc is the region’s catch-all white appellation, and what goes into it says a good deal about a grower’s contacts. Camille Thiriet has bottled one since her first vintage in 2016, when the fruit came from an old-vine site in Meursault; since then the sourcing has ranged from Puligny to Chablis. This release is drawn from a plot of old Chardonnay at Chaux, beside Comblanchien at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, which also carries some old Aligoté and Pinot Blanc interplanted in the rows, as was once common across Burgundy. The wine opens racy and punchy and keeps building with air, showing mixed citrus and increasing stone fruit, with a cool, pine-fresh twist to the finish. It is bottled under Diam closure.

Drinking well now and over the next three years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken salad or a soft goat’s cheese.
