Description
Maison C. Thiriet Bourgogne du Jardin Aligoté blends old-vine Aligoté Doré from near Pommard with a 90-year-old parcel at Corgoloin.
Aligoté is Burgundy’s second white grape and has been steadily rehabilitated over the past decade, largely on the strength of old plantings that survived in unfashionable corners of the Côte. Camille Thiriet’s bottling draws on two of them: old-vine Aligoté Doré from vines near Pommard, and a parcel at Corgoloin planted around 90 years ago, which Thiriet refers to as ‘my garden’ and which gives the cuvée its name. Yields from those ancient vines came in at a meagre 15 hectolitres per hectare in 2021. Fruit from both sites was pressed together in a vertical press and raised for nine months in old oak, with 10 per cent new. The style is pithy and fresh, with rather more texture and length than the variety usually manages. It is sealed with Diam.
Drinking now and over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with oysters, gougères or a fresh goat’s cheese.
