Maison C. Thiriet Côte de Nuits Villages Deslandes 2021

Maison C. Thiriet Côte de Nuits Villages Deslandes is a whole-bunch Pinot Noir from La Julbigne, near the Château de Comblanchien.

Côte de Nuits-Villages gathers the vineyards at either end of the Côte de Nuits, including those of Comblanchien and Corgoloin at the southern tip, where the limestone is quarried as building stone and the wines carry a firm, stony frame. Camille Thiriet and Wesley Hagen set up their small domaine and négociant business at Comblanchien in 2016 and have built a following for bright, gently extracted Burgundy. Although the fruit comes from a terroir called La Julbigne, Camille prefers to call the bottling Cuvée Deslandes, in honour of an early benefactor and because the vineyard name is a mouthful. The vines sit not far from the Château de Comblanchien. The wine was vinified with 50 per cent whole bunches layered among the destemmed berries in the fermenter, and part of the maturation took place in stainless steel to hold on to the vineyard's delicate floral aromatics. It is crunchy, bright and sappy, with red fruit and whole-bunch lift. It is sealed with natural cork.

Drink now or over the next six to eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast duck, veal or a mushroom risotto.
