Maison Ponsot Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2020

Maison Ponsot Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne is drawn from two parcels in Aloxe, one on the Pernand border in Le Charlemagne and one in Les Languettes.

Corton-Charlemagne wraps around the upper part of the hill of Corton, spanning the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny, and is the largest white grand cru in Burgundy. The upper slope, where the marl is paler and the limestone content higher, is the part that gives the appellation its reputation for structure and length. Both of the parcels behind this wine lie in Aloxe: Le Charlemagne, on the Pernand boundary, and Les Languettes, a little further round the hill. Ponsot first made this cuvée in 2009. The house approach applies here as with the reds, with late picking, low yields and ageing in older barrels rather than new wood, producing a wine with flesh and depth but a clear line of acidity running through it.

Best from four or five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast bresse chicken, lobster or aged Comté.
