Description
Marchese Antinori 'Tenuta Montenisa Cuvée Royale Brut' Franciacorta DOCG is a traditional-method sparkling wine from Lombardy, made at the Antinori family's estate in Italy's most exacting sparkling wine region.
Franciacorta lies in Lombardy, between Brescia and the southern shore of Lake Iseo, on moraine hills left behind by a retreating glacier. It was the first Italian region to build its reputation on bottle-fermented sparkling wine and remains the benchmark, with DOCG rules that are stricter than most, including a longer minimum period on lees than Champagne demands. Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco are the permitted grapes, and the second fermentation, riddling and disgorgement all follow the classic method. The Antinori family, in the wine trade since 1385 and best known for its work in Tuscany, took on the Montenisa estate in the late 1990s and made it their sparkling house.
Serve well chilled, at around 8 degrees, as an aperitif or alongside shellfish, fried seafood and lighter antipasti. It is ready to drink on release.
