Marchese Antinori Vinsanto del Chianti Classico DOC is Tuscany's traditional dried-grape dessert wine, made by a family that has been in the wine trade since 1385.

Vin Santo is one of the oldest and most labour-intensive traditions in Tuscan winemaking. Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes are picked and then laid out to dry, historically on cane mats or hung from rafters in an airy loft, for months over the winter, so the sugars concentrate as the berries shrivel. The shrunken fruit is pressed and the juice sealed into small chestnut and oak casks known as caratelli, left in an unheated attic to ferment and mature slowly for years through the swings of Tuscan summers and winters. Very little wine survives the process, which is part of why it has always been the wine of hospitality, brought out for guests.

Traditionally served with cantucci for dipping, and equally good with dried fruit, nuts or hard aged cheese; serve lightly chilled.
