Mas de Libian Vin de France Buve Z'en Rosé 2023

Mas de Libian Buve Z'en Rosé is a biodynamic southern Rhône rosé made in equal parts from Grenache, Counoise and Syrah.

Mas de Libian farms on the right bank of the Rhône in the Ardèche, near Saint-Marcel-d'Ardèche, on rocky terraces of galets and limestone. The family works biodynamically and still ploughs with a horse. This rosé comes from the estate's younger vines, spread across several of those stony sites, and is made on the Provençal model: a short maceration followed by slow pressing into tank, then fermentation with wild yeasts. The varieties are unusual for a pink wine of this kind, with Counoise in particular adding a savoury, peppery edge that the more common Cinsault does not, and the vineyard material carries considerably more flavour than the volume rosé the style is associated with. It is bottled as Vin de France.

Drink it young, within a year or two of release. Serve at 8-10°C with saucisson, grilled prawns or a summer salad of tomato and goat's cheese.
