Description

Mas de Libian Vin de France Buve Z'en Rosé is an equal-thirds biodynamic blend of Grenache, Counoise and Syrah from the estate's younger vines.

Mas de Libian lies in the southern Ardèche, on the western edge of the southern Rhône, where Hélène Thibon farms biodynamically across a scatter of rocky terroirs. The fruit for this rosé is drawn from the younger plantings spread across those sites, and Counoise, an old southern Rhône variety rarely seen on its own, makes up a full third of the blend. The winemaking is deliberately plain: all three varieties are slowly pressed into tank after a short maceration, then fermented with wild yeasts, with no oak and no adornment. It is bottled as Vin de France rather than under the Côtes du Rhône appellation. The house line is that drinking it is like drinking the landscape of the Ardèche, and the wine's combination of silky texture and crunchy acidity does carry a clear sense of where it comes from.

Best drunk in its first year or two. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled prawns, a niçoise salad or barbecued lamb skewers.
