Description
Vin de Pétanque is Mas de Libian's biodynamic vin de soif, named after the Provençal game of boules and built for exactly that kind of afternoon.
The fruit is culled from an assortment of terroirs around the estate — clay-limestone, galets roulés and sandy parcels — with high-grown Grenache as the base and roughly equal amounts of Mourvèdre and Syrah alongside it. There is also a small contribution from the estate's decade-old plantings of Counoise and Vaccarèse, two southern Rhône natives that most growers pulled out long ago. Everything is destemmed, given a short five-day maceration and raised exclusively in concrete tank, so nothing gets in the way of the fruit. Bottling is unfiltered, with only a small sulphur addition at that point and none earlier in the process. The style is deliberately light and digestible: mulberry and grenadine fruit, bright acidity and no hard edges.
Drink now and over the next two or three years, lightly chilled at 14–16°C, with charcuterie, roast tomato and olive tarts, or grilled sausages.
