Description
Massena Surly Muse is a Barossa Viognier sourced from the Gomersal district on the valley's western side.
Massena was established in the Barossa Valley by Jaysen Collins and Dan Standish, with a focus on the Mediterranean varieties that suit the region's warm, dry climate rather than the big oaked styles the Barossa is best known for. Surly Muse is drawn from Viognier grown around Gomersal, in the south western corner of the valley, where red brown earths over clay and limestone give fruit with good weight and natural texture. Viognier is a Rhône variety that needs warmth to ripen fully, and the Barossa's long, dry growing season suits it well. The wine is made to preserve freshness alongside the variety's natural richness, and it is sealed under screwcap to keep it bright.
A textured, generous white with fresh balance, it suits roast chicken, pork belly, mild curries and soft cheeses; serve at around 10 degrees.
