Masseto Massetino IGT 2023

Masseto Massetino IGT is a Merlot based Tuscan red from the coastal hill that produces Italy's most sought after Merlot.

Masseto sits above Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, on a hill of dense blue clay of a kind rarely found in Italy, and it is that soil which gives the wine both its character and its name. The vineyard was planted in the early 1980s as part of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, and the wine went on to become one of the most expensive in the country. Massetino was introduced later as a second wine from the same estate, blending Merlot with a portion of Cabernet Franc from lots not used for the flagship. It is aged in French oak in the same cellar, which is built into the hillside directly beneath the vineyard.

More approachable in its youth than Masseto itself, it suits roast beef, game and aged cheese; serve at around 17 degrees.
