Description

Massolino Barbaresco is the estate's first Barbaresco release, a blend of the three parcels it farms in the commune of Neive.

Massolino is a Serralunga d'Alba house whose reputation was built on Barolo, and this bottling marks its move across into Barbaresco, drawing on three sites in Neive. Serraboella accounts for the lion's share and is among the most celebrated vineyards in the eastern sector of the commune, the estate's vines lying on the favoured southwest-facing hill, on light soils above the village. Albesani, on the western hills, is the best known of the three and also goes into a single-vineyard wine. Starderi, on the western side of Neive, is a sunnier terroir that generates power and brings flesh to the blend. The winemaking is hardly different from that of the Barolo wines: wild fermentation in large oak fermenters, about three weeks on skins, then up to eighteen months in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling.

Approachable earlier than the single vineyard, though worth eight to ten years; serve at 17-18°C with braised veal, mushroom pasta or a hard alpine cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
