Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Massolino's Langhe Nebbiolo draws on three separate terroirs and is offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.

Early releases of this wine came exclusively from Massolino's younger vines at Serralunga d'Alba, effectively a declassified Barolo. Two further parcels are now in play: Cascina I Maschi at Monforte d'Alba, a cool, chalky site the family credits with lifted perfume and freshness, and a parcel at Alba on lighter sandy-clay soils that brings depth of fruit. The blend runs roughly a third from each, and the combination has added finesse and early-drinking appeal to a wine that was already among the better Langhe Nebbiolo bottlings. Extraction is very gentle, and the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks, as all Massolino Nebbiolo is, for 15 months rather than the 24 months and more given to the Barolo. Fine, chalky tannins and a perfumed finish are the hallmarks. Magnums age more slowly than standard bottles.

Drinking well now and good for five to eight years, longer in this format. Serve at 16-18°C with braised veal, mushroom risotto or roast poultry.
