Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo 375ml 2022

Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo is a Piedmontese red drawn in roughly equal thirds from Serralunga, Monforte d'Alba and Alba itself.

Langhe Nebbiolo is the appellation Barolo growers use for younger vines, declassified fruit and parcels outside the Barolo boundary, and it offers the variety's perfume without the long ageing requirement. Massolino has farmed in Serralunga d'Alba since 1896 and remains in family hands. Three sources go into this wine: young vines in Serralunga, in effect declassified Barolo fruit; the cool, chalky Cascina I Maschi site at Monforte, credited by the estate with the wine's lifted perfume and freshness; and a parcel at Alba on lighter sandy clay that brings generosity of fruit. Extraction is deliberately gentle, and the wine is aged for fifteen months in large Slavonian oak casks rather than the twenty-four months and more given to the Barolo, so the tannins stay ripe and chalky rather than firm. It is sealed under screwcap.

Approachable on release and good for five to eight years, it suits braised beef, mushroom risotto and hard alpine cheeses; serve at 16-18°C.
