MDI Friulano Skin Ed XI 2023

MDI Friulano Skin Ed XI is a skin-fermented Friulano from the Murray Darling, aged nearly two years in old French oak.

A cool 2023 across the Murray Darling pushed picking at the Pasut family vineyard back by a couple of weeks, which is no bad thing for a variety that can shed its acid in a hurry. Fruit was gently destemmed and left on skins for fourteen days before pressing to tank. After a short settle the wine was racked with some solids still in suspension to seasoned French puncheons, where it stayed for twenty-three months, a long stretch by any measure and the reason for its savoury depth. Bottling followed in February 2025, without fining or filtration.

Deep gold, with quince, dried herbs, beeswax and a dry tannic finish that asks for food. Twelve degrees is about right. Try it with roast chicken and lemon, a bowl of brothy beans, or prosciutto and pickled onions.
