MDI Friulano Skin Ed XI 2026

MDI Friulano Skin Ed XI is a fresher take on skin-fermented Friulano from Mildura, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Rare material sits behind this one. The Pasut family's Friulano in Mildura came from the CSIRO nursery in the 1980s, planted on limestone-studded red-brown loam that gives the golden-skinned fruit both its acid and its grip. The 2026 crop was destemmed in full and fermented on skins for eighteen days before pressing and a rough rack to seasoned French puncheons. Kevin McCarthy took the wine out of wood in the last week of June, earlier than in past vintages, which is why this release sits lighter and brighter, with a trace of natural carbon dioxide adding lift. Bottled on 10 July with a modest dose of sulphur.

Brighter than previous editions: yellow apple, citrus pith, dried flowers and a fine tannin edge, with just enough spritz to keep it lively. Drink it at 11 to 12 degrees with grilled sardines, a fennel and orange salad, or soft cheese on toast.
