Description
MDI Sangiovese is a straightforward, savoury red grown at Mildura in the Murray Darling.
Denis Pasut has been farming these rows at Mildura for a long time, and the variety has proven a good fit for a warm inland region most people associate with something far less interesting. The fruit spends fifteen days on skins and the winemaking is deliberately minimal, the point being to keep the berry fruit fresh rather than to build anything on top of it. About six months in oak follows, then a racking and into bottle.
Bright acidity, sour cherry fruit and a dusty savoury finish. It is built for the table, not for contemplation. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with a pizza margherita, roast vegetables and haloumi, or a simple bolognese.
