Meadowbank Chardonnay 2024

Meadowbank Chardonnay is a Derwent Valley Chardonnay matured nine months on lees in French barriques.

After a run of lean seasons, 2024 brought yields back to something like normal. Summer was sunny and warm through the day with cool nights behind it, a pattern that keeps natural acidity intact and fruit character clear. Fruit again comes off the property's oldest Chardonnay, P58 clone in its thirties, planted in loose sand and sandstone over iron-rich coffee rock. Two passes at different ripeness levels balanced the clone's ripe leaning, and bunches were pressed to French barriques with 10 per cent new wood for fermentation, followed by nine months on lees.

Chiselled and focused, with citrus, white flowers and crunchy stone fruit over a rocky palate. Signature Tasmanian acidity ties it together and the finish keeps its slaty drive. Twelve degrees, with grilled whiting, roast chicken and lemon, or a soft washed-rind cheese.
