Meadowbank Gamay 2024

Meadowbank Gamay is a juicy, whole-bunch Tasmanian Gamay bottled without fining or filtration.

Australian Gamay is still a small club, and the vines behind this one are among the oldest in the country: the estate's original Pinot Block, planted in 1987, with a second block added at Top Woolshed in 2015. Soils are loose sand over sandstone and coffee rock, with dolerite in the newer block. Both are farmed sustainably. Each block came in separately and fermented as whole clusters across twelve days, with foot-stomping in the days after, then three months in old French barriques. Peter Dredge is pleased with this one, and the reason is not hard to taste.

Lifted perfume, then an irresistibly juicy, sappy palate of red fruit with lip-smacking freshness and almost no tannic drag. Serve it at 13 degrees, or chill it harder on a hot day, with charcuterie, grilled chicken, or a tomato and anchovy salad.
