Description
Ministry of Clouds McLaren Vale Shiraz is a regional Shiraz that shows the fresher, more restrained side of the region's best-known grape.
Ministry of Clouds is a small McLaren Vale label founded by Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood, who came to winemaking after long careers in the wine trade. They work with growers across the region, with a particular focus on the old sandy sites of Blewitt Springs, and favour gentle, low-intervention winemaking that keeps the emphasis on site and freshness rather than oak or extraction. Shiraz is McLaren Vale's most planted variety, and the region's mix of sand, clay and ironstone soils, along with its maritime-influenced climate, gives wines of generous depth. Here fruit from several sites across the region is blended to capture that regional character while keeping the wine lifted and balanced rather than heavy. It is sealed under screwcap and is also bottled in magnum.
A full-bodied but fresh Shiraz for barbecued beef, lamb shoulder and hearty stews; serve at around 17 to 18 degrees.
