Description
Ministry of Clouds Onkaparinga Rocks Shiraz is a single-site McLaren Vale Shiraz from the rocky country around the Onkaparinga River.
Ministry of Clouds is a small McLaren Vale label founded by Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood, who came to winemaking after long careers in the wine trade. They work with growers across the region, with a particular focus on the old sandy sites of Blewitt Springs, and favour gentle, low-intervention winemaking that keeps the emphasis on site and freshness rather than oak or extraction. The Onkaparinga Rocks sites lie in the north of the region near the Onkaparinga Gorge, where shallow, stony soils over ancient rock restrict vine vigour and yields. That low-yielding fruit gives Shiraz with concentration and a firm, mineral line of tannin. The wine is made with care to show its site rather than oak and is sealed under screwcap.
A structured, full-bodied Shiraz that suits rib eye, braised beef cheek and aged hard cheeses; serve at around 17 to 18 degrees.
