Description
Miraval Rosé is a dry Provençal rosé from the Château Miraval estate at Correns, in the hills of the Var.
Correns is a small village inland from the coast that made a point of converting its farmland to organic growing, and the château above it has a second life as a recording studio, built into the cellars in the 1970s and used by a long list of visiting musicians. The wine is made in partnership with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, who bring several generations of southern French experience to the farming and the blending. Cinsault and Grenache form the base, with Syrah for structure and Rolle, the Provençal name for Vermentino, adding a white component. Fruit is picked early and pressed gently, the modern route to a pale, dry rosé.
Provençal rosé belongs at the table as much as on the terrace, and this suits grilled fish, salade niçoise, goats' cheese or anything cooked with garlic and olive oil. Serve it well chilled, at around 8 to 10 degrees.
