Montinore Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2019

Montinore Estate Reserve Pinot Noir is a barrel-selected Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from a cool, long season.

Oregon in 2019 was classic and testing in equal measure: a mild spring, a warm summer and a crisp finish, which left intensely concentrated berries carrying good natural acidity and a real structural frame. The wine drew on Dijon, Pommard and Wadenswil clones from four of the property's best blocks, each one destemmed and fermented apart in small open-top steel vessels so clone and terroir came through clearly. The blend was assembled only after ten months in French barriques, 38 per cent of them new. Stephen Webber calls it a fair representation of the vineyard at its best.

Concentrated and slow to open, with dark cherry, spice and mineral depth behind a supple frame. Air helps it considerably, so decant. Serve at 16 degrees alongside roast duck, venison, or a wintery mushroom risotto.
