Montinore Estate Reserve Riesling 2018

Montinore Estate Reserve Riesling is a dry Riesling from own-rooted vines in the Willamette Valley.

The Riesling blocks run down a slope facing south above Graham Lake, planted to Geisenheim 68 on their own roots and now forty years old, a rarity in a country that mostly grafts. Fruit is handpicked and pressed as whole clusters before a cool fermentation in stainless steel barrels, and once bottled the wine is held back for as long as two years before release. The 2018 ripening season closed with long, sun-drenched days and genuinely cold nights, the combination that gives dry Riesling both texture and brightness.

Lime, summer flowers and a chalky freshness lead into a clean, pure palate of zesty flavour, nervy acidity and talc-like texture. Youthful, with plenty of drive. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees with oysters, a crab salad, or spicy noodles.
