Description

Moreau-Naudet's Petit Chablis is the most direct wine in a range built on very low yields and a light hand in the cellar.

Petit Chablis covers the higher, flatter ground above the classified slopes, where soils are shallower and sites more exposed, so the wines come in leaner and more sharply acidic than village Chablis. The domaine took its name in 1950 from the marriage of Marie Naudet and René Moreau; Stéphane Moreau took over from his father Roger in 1991 and rebuilt it around pre-industrial methods, drawing on the example of Vincent Dauvissat, Didier Dagueneau and Charly Foucault, before dying at 47 shortly ahead of the 2016 harvest. Virginie Naudet has led the estate since. The 25.5 hectares are worked without herbicides or pesticides and picked by hand — one grand cru parcel is ploughed by horse — and yields ran to only 35 hl/ha in 2017. Fermentation is with no added yeasts, sulphur is kept low, and every wine is raised on its fine lees.

Drink within two or three years. Serve at 10–12°C with oysters, salt-and-pepper squid or a fresh goat's cheese.
