Description
Mount Macleod Pinot Noir is an organic Gippsland Pinot Noir matured a year in concrete and old oak.
Less than 5 per cent whole bunches went in this year, fermented on indigenous yeasts, and the wine then spent twelve months on lees split between concrete and old wooden barrels with at least ten fills behind them, barrels that once held the Caledonia Australis Pinot Noir. There is no new oak anywhere in the picture. The vines are dry-grown and organically farmed in South Gippsland, and Mark Matthews has never made much noise about what he does, which is part of why the wines are priced the way they are.
Juicy, silky and pure-fruited, loaded with spice and forest floor notes over a sleek texture. It over-delivers on every count. Serve at 15 degrees with roast duck, a mushroom tart, or grilled quail and lentils.
