Müller-Catoir Herrenletten Riesling 2019

Herrenletten is a dry Pfalz Riesling from an Erste Lage site next to Müller-Catoir's celebrated Bürgergarten.

Müller-Catoir, at Haardt near Neustadt, has been in the same family since 1744 and is one of the reference estates of the Pfalz, farming organically. Herrenletten sits adjacent to Bürgergarten, and its name carries both history and geology: Herren records that the land was held by noble landlords in the Middle Ages, while letten refers to the soil, a sandy clay with layers of limestone and chalky clay. The oldest Riesling vines on the site are around forty years old, and the vineyard is also home to Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The clay gives a wine with more flesh and immediate generosity than the estate's Bürgergarten bottlings, which tend to be tighter and slower to open, while the limestone keeps the finish firm. It is made dry, fermented cool and given time on lees before bottling.

Drinking well on release with five to eight years ahead of it. A good match for pork, roast chicken or a mild curry; serve at 10-12°C.
