Murdoch Hill Orion Shiraz 2022

Murdoch Hill Orion Shiraz is a cool-climate Syrah from a single Adelaide Hills block.

The Adelaide Hills sit high enough above the Barossa and McLaren Vale to change what Shiraz does: less sweetness and alcohol, more pepper, violet and tension, closer in feel to the northern Rhône than to the warm valleys an hour away. Murdoch Hill is a family property at Oakbank, farmed since 1998, with Michael Downer making the wines and naming them after the horse-drawn carriages his family once used. Fermentation includes whole bunches and native yeast, with maturation in older French oak.

Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with roast lamb, charcuterie or peppered beef. It will develop for a decade.
