Murdoch Hill Rosé 2020

Murdoch Hill Rosé is a dry Adelaide Hills rosé led by Cabernet Sauvignon.

Estate Cabernet from Oakbank makes up most of the blend, as it has in past years, joined this time by a parcel of Lenswood Merlot; a change worth noting in a wine whose composition follows what the vineyard offers. The Cabernet was pressed straight off skins, so what colour the wine has came off the press with no maceration at all. Fermentation was wild, in old barrique and foudre, which is unusual treatment for pink wine in this country and the reason this carries more texture and savour than the pale Mediterranean model most Australian producers copy.

Pale but not shy: redcurrant, blood orange and a dry, savoury edge from old wood. Bone-dry, with fine acid and a little grip. Serve at 9 degrees. Good with grilled prawns, jamón or a salad of tomato and burrata.
