Murdoch Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Murdoch Hill Sauvignon Blanc is a dry, estate-grown Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc.

Grown across three blocks and picked four separate times, this gets the same handling as everything else at the property, which is more than most Australian Sauvignon Blanc can claim. The 2021 season was cool and dry, and opinion in the Adelaide Hills rates it very highly. Fermentation was split between tank and wood, 85 per cent barrel and 15 per cent demi-muid, all older and neutral, so the lees could lend breadth without any oak flavour arriving with it. Michael Downer treats the variety as worth the trouble, and the wine has energy without the green shrillness the grape often gets saddled with.

Passionfruit, lime leaf and cut herbs, with a creamy thread from lees. Energetic and dry, the acid clean and long. Serve well chilled, around 8 degrees, with goat's cheese, oysters or a Vietnamese salad of herbs and chicken.
