Nautilus Estate Chardonnay 2024

Nautilus Estate Chardonnay is a Marlborough Chardonnay made with natural ferments for texture and nutty complexity.

The Hill-Smith family, custodians of Yalumba in South Australia, founded this Marlborough estate in 1985 and it remains family owned today. While the region is best known for Sauvignon Blanc, its long, cool growing season also produces Chardonnay of real finesse. Here, natural ferments build a nutty, savoury layer around ripe nectarine, stone fruit and honeysuckle, with brioche, beeswax and toasted almond on the nose. The structure is tight and mineral in youth, and the wine is expected to develop a creamier texture as it matures.

Pour it lightly chilled alongside roast chicken, crayfish with herb butter or a gruyère soufflé. It will reward a few years of patience in the cellar.
