Nicolas-Jay Bishop Creek Pinot Noir 2019

Nicolas-Jay Bishop Creek Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir from old, ungrafted vines in the Yamhill-Carlton district.

Bishop Creek sits in the north-west corner of Yamhill-Carlton, in the northern Willamette Valley, and is a key site for this Franco-American partnership between Jean-Nicolas Méo of Domaine Méo-Camuzet and Jay Boberg. Its old vines grow on their own roots, and the district's ancient marine sediment soils give a darker, more structured Pinot Noir marked by brambly blackberry and a crushed-stone mineral quality. The 2019 adds roasted meat, game, toasted nut and exotic spice, with strong tannins and a long, tight-knit finish.

Decant for an hour and serve at around 16 to 17 degrees with roast duck, venison or a mushroom and truffle pasta. The winery expects it to age for years as the tannins integrate.
