Description

Nicolas-Jay Bishop Creek YC Pinot Noir is a powerful, structured single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Yamhill-Carlton in Oregon.

The YC on the label stands for Yamhill-Carlton, the district in the northern Willamette Valley where the rugged, old-vine Bishop Creek vineyard grows. Its fruit has a long track record, and in the hands of Jean-Nicolas Méo and Jay Boberg it makes a wine built for the cellar. Mountain blackberry compote, loamy earth and pencil shavings lead the way, followed by roasted plum and candied fennel, with broad-shouldered tannins, a crushed-granite feel and dusty, roasted oak notes over a very long finish.

Patience pays with this one. Decant for an hour or two, serve at 16 to 18 degrees, and pair with beef wellington, roast pheasant or porcini risotto. Better still, cellar it for several years.
