Description

Nicolas-Jay Bishop Creek YC Pinot Noir is a brooding, age-worthy Oregon Pinot Noir from a rugged old-vine vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton.

Bishop Creek, in the Yamhill-Carlton district of the northern Willamette Valley, is one of the area's older plantings and is farmed on its own roots. Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Méo, together with Jay Boberg, bottles it separately to show the site's intensity. The well-regarded 2023 season has given a tightly wound wine: blackberry compote, crushed granite, pencil lead and sweet leather around roasted plum and herbs, then candied fennel and blue fruits, with granular tannins and roasted oak pushing a long finish.

This needs time. Cellar it for several years, or decant for a couple of hours and serve with roast lamb, beef short rib or wild mushrooms at around 17 degrees.
