Description
Nicole Lamarche Côtes de Nuits Villages Blanc is made from Chardonnay grown by organic growers at the southern end of Premeaux.
White Côtes de Nuits-Villages is a rarity, since the Côte de Nuits is overwhelmingly planted to Pinot Noir, and the southern end around Premeaux is one of the few places it is found. Nicole Lamarche's reputation rests on the family's Vosne-Romanée holdings, including the Grand Cru monopole La Grande Rue, but she now makes a growing range of négociant wines from strictly organic growers with whom she works closely. This cuvée is entirely Chardonnay, from vineyards between the Corton hill and the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. The winemaking follows her usual pattern, with restrained oak and a focus on freshness and clarity, and the wine combines precision and cut with a fleshy, generous middle. It is an unusual bottle and a good deal more refined than the appellation would suggest.
Drinking well now and over the next five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a mild soft cheese.
