Description
Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Echézeaux is drawn from three separate lieux-dits within the appellation, together about 1.3 hectares.
Echézeaux is the largest grand cru of the Côte de Nuits, a patchwork of climats above and beside Clos de Vougeot whose wines vary widely according to which parcels a grower holds. Domaine Lamarche works with Les Cruots ou Vignes Blanches, Clos Saint-Denis and Les Champs Traversins, vines averaging thirty years of age. Nicole Lamarche took charge of the estate in 2007 and has moved it towards lower yields and a gentler extraction, which here produces one of the more finely drawn wines of the appellation. Jasper Morris MW has written that the cuvée has almost as much to offer as the domaine's Grands Echézeaux, the latter carrying greater weight and power while the Echézeaux is particularly elegant in its immaculate, lacy style.
Give it six to eight years and drink over the following fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, hare or a mushroom and truffle pasta.
