Description

Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru La Grande Rue Monopole Cuvée 1959 comes from a sliver of vines that formed part of La Tâche until a land swap in 1959.

La Grande Rue runs up the slope at Vosne-Romanée between La Tâche and the Romanée vineyards, and has been a Lamarche monopole since 1933. In 1959 the domaine exchanged parcels with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti under a remembrement, giving up seven small plots of Les Gaudichots, now part of La Tâche, together with two lots in Echézeaux, and receiving three parcels of La Grande Rue in return. As Allen Meadows records in The Pearl of the Côte, no money changed hands. The fruit for this cuvée therefore grew inside La Tâche between 1933 and 1959, on vines never replanted since. Nicole Lamarche uses a higher proportion of whole bunches here and ferments in tank rather than wood, ageing the wine in a single Châtillonnais oak barrel from Cavin.

A wine for the long term, best from ten years and lasting decades. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game bird, truffled beef or aged Comté.
