Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Monopole La Grande Rue 2022

Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Monopole La Grande Rue is a 1.65-hectare Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru that has been in family hands alone since 1933.

The vineyard dates to the fifteenth century and takes its name from the minor road that borders it as it climbs above the village. After La Romanée it is the smallest of the Vosne Grands Crus, and its position is extraordinary: it continues directly from La Tâche to the south and faces La Romanée-Conti, La Romanée and Romanée-Saint-Vivant across a narrow road to the north. The style is often read as a prettier, more delicate La Tâche, though Clive Coates MW placed it closer to Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and tasted alongside the domaine's Echézeaux, Grands Echézeaux and Clos de Vougeot its depth is plain. Nicole Lamarche fermented the 2022 with 30 per cent whole bunches, managing extraction with both punch-downs and pump-overs, and aged the wine in cask, half of it new.

This asks for a decade in the cellar and much longer if you have the patience; serve with roast game, beef or truffle at 16 to 18°C.
