Description

Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Monopole La Grande Rue is a 1.65-hectare Vosne-Romanée monopole held by the family since 1933.

La Grande Rue takes its name from the minor road that borders the vineyard as it climbs above the village, and the site dates back to the fifteenth century. After La Romanée it is the smallest of the Vosne Grands Crus, and its position is remarkable: it is enclosed by La Tâche to the south, of which it is effectively the continuation, and by La Romanée-Conti, La Romanée and Romanée-Saint-Vivant to the north. The vineyard came to the Lamarche family in 1933 and has been their monopole ever since. Nicole Lamarche now farms and makes the wine, and the style is often read as a prettier, more delicate version of La Tâche, though Clive Coates argued it sits closer to Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Tasted beside the domaine's Echézeaux and Clos de Vougeot, its extra class and depth is plain.

A wine for the long term, worth ten to twenty years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game birds, beef fillet or truffled dishes.
