Description
Marrissou is the most northerly of Rully's Premier Cru vineyards, and this is Nicole Lamarche's first white from the Côte Chalonnaise.
Rully lies at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, a district long valued for Chardonnay that carries the shape of the Côte de Beaune at a friendlier price. The parcel behind this négociant bottling sits under the Montagne de Remenot at 150 to 200 metres, on Oxfordian limestone bedrock beneath brown clay and a stony topsoil. Lamarche is best known for Pinot Noir at Vosne-Romanée, and this is one of three whites recently added to her range. Her approach in the cellar follows the same logic as her reds: very lightly toasted barrels, little stirring of the lees and minimal intervention, so that the vineyard's balance of fruit richness and mineral cut is what reaches the glass.
Drink over the next five to seven years, with roast poultry, grilled white fish or a soft washed-rind cheese, at 10 to 12°C.
