Nicole Lamarche Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots comes from two parcels in one of the largest and most sought-after premiers crus of the village.

Les Suchots sits on the northern side of Vosne-Romanée, wedged between Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Echézeaux and the wall of Clos de Vougeot, a position that has long marked it out among the village's premiers crus. Lamarche draws on two plots: one in the higher section, known as Grands Suchots until the 1970s, and one in the lower dip that growers call the cuvette. Nicole Lamarche has run the family estate since 2007, moving it towards lower yields, gentler extraction and the use of amphora alongside old oak for part of the range, and the wines have become notably more transparent as a result. Suchots typically gives a perfumed, spiced Vosne with more flesh than the stonier sites higher up the slope.

Give it five to eight years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a soft washed-rind cheese.
